Building muscle for what’s required now (12 of 12 Part Series)

At the start of this series, we asked ourselves - Is our organisation (really) Ready for this period?

Acknowledging that, in the same way that we don’t know what we don’t know, we haven’t considered what we haven’t considered.

At a headline level, you knew that strategy implementation had shifted to a more dynamic setting. Through the 10 x 10 Consideration exercises, you will have expanded your strategic implementation thinking.

If you are like all the other leaders that I have worked with over time, you will have preferred angles where you go deep and remain current. Scanning across all 10 factors, and using the What? So What? Now What? reflective process, I guarantee you will see new opportunities and risks. Sometimes it’s a new topic, more often it’s topics we have seen before, and it is the current opportunity or risk implications that are the new epiphany.?

Surrounding most organisations at this time there is a lot of “noise”. Our experience tells us that feeling a lot of movement on the periphery of our awareness triggers different reactions in ourselves and team members ranging from avoidance, to doubling down on efforts to control, or achieve internal targets, or becoming a stickler for the details. Working through these Consideration exercises is designed to feel like building muscle for expanded organisational awareness – both seeing and “dot connecting”.

Those who engage in this leadership work, wanting to ensure positive outcomes, know it is not to be taken lightly.

There’s a brutality to the Mike Tyson quote that is confronting and useful in this discussion. I am often asked why do I obsess on building the strength of the agenda, leadership, and team dynamic of Fitness for Business Transformation? There’s always the upside answer of seeing teams achieve what even they had doubted at times. I do love being a part of that. There is also the other angle of the unnecessary pain experienced of totally avoidable topics that became issues while leaders and teams are busy working on their operations and strategy.?

As the environment continues to shift, your organisation’s Business Transformation can no longer be led like a technical project plan. Building awareness of considerations that impact fitness into your leadership rhythms is a critical evolution of your good work.

Like signing up for an Ultra-Marathon, or getting in the ring with Mike Tyson, leading an organisation through transformation is a challenge to be respected and prepared for rigorously!
