Every successful self-care practice needs to start somewhere—preferably with a morning routine to set the stage for a productive day. While this is generally easier said than done, it’s important to prioritize finding something that motivates you to rise and shine.
From the moment you wake up and pick up your phone, you’re flooded with all the tasks for the day and the things you need to do. This can be so daunting that you end up wasting time just thinking about it, but with an effective morning routine, you are prompted to perform tasks in a more energizing and effective way. Cementing some morning habits can make it easier to prioritize your mental and physical health throughout the rest of the day too.
Have you ever paused to think about what a productive day would look like to you? How would you feel, at the end of the day, looking back at what you have accomplished? Can you see yourself moving forward and accomplishing new things regularly? Do you feel the excitement and anticipation that the next day will bring because you know you can make it as productive as the previous day?
The feeling of satisfaction when you complete the tasks and goals for the day can be so energizing that you will find yourself planning your next day with enthusiasm! This is a great way to knock down all your action steps and reach your goals in no time.
Here are some recommended steps to create a healthy morning routine toward a better you:
Start with what energizes you.
What you feel in the morning will affect how you feel the entire day. Starting your morning with an energizing activity will help you feel enthusiastic about getting things done throughout the day. For example, taking a shower upon waking up can jumpstart your motivation, as this improves blood circulation, washes away toxins, and decreases stress!
Others may prefer a few minutes of workout to reinvigorate their body, boost their energy and improve their focus and mood. People who exercise often feel more confident about themselves than people who don’t.
Some prefer morning gratitude in the form of meditation, prayer, or affirmation to help start the day with intentionality and purpose.?
Whatever you decide to do, make sure it’s something that brings a smile to your face, as doing so will increase your energy to get you going for the rest of the day.?

Set your goals and intentions early on
Having clarity on what you want to accomplish for the day can make a difference between staying focused and being productive or wasting time from one task to another by being constantly distracted by many small activities.?
Take a couple of minutes each morning to write down 1-3 things you want to accomplish for the day. These goals must be personal and meaningful to you. When accomplished, these goals should make you feel good about yourself and the impact you created.?
You can even set your goals before you go to sleep the night before. This will calm your brain, and you’ll wake up rested and ready the following day to face whatever lies ahead.? This is a great way to set your intention for the day as soon as you wake up!
Step out of your comfort zone
If you are serious about your personal growth, success, and productivity every day, then be ready to do something out of your comfort zone regularly. Only by doing things differently do we learn new ways to approach our day and explore new practices that increase our productivity. Stepping out of your comfort zone will also allow you to approach the world with fewer inhibitions and fears.
Getting out of your comfort zone is not just about “doing.” It is also about “not doing.” What do I mean by that? Sometimes some of our morning routines are so ingrained in our day-to-day lives that we’ve stopped questioning if they serve us. For example, monitoring your social media accounts, skipping breakfast, or snoozing your alarm clock one too many times.?
Any of these are always easier said than done, but if you add the intention into your morning routine, you can train yourself over time. Keep in mind that trying to change everything at once can be daunting and you may struggle to keep them going. So, choose only one or two of these and build them one step at a time into your routine before you take on the next one.?
Practice, repetition, and grace are imperative as you move forward. Nobody gets it the first time, but if you are persistent, your subconscious mind will eventually give in and stop fighting your conscious efforts.
What are some other morning habits you’ve built into your routine?
