Building a more inclusive startup board is still a challenge

Ode to my Chitown:

'Diversity, equity and inclusion is a problem that the tech industry seems to talk a lot about, but hasn’t yet figured out how to fix. In an effort to bridge that gap, a group of powerful stakeholders in the Chicago tech ecosystem are taking a closer look at the issue with a hyperlocal focus and an eye toward actionable next steps.' What they've found is that it comes down to big picture thinking along with actionable steps. One key example is building a pipeline of women and minority candidates so that they are represented when startups conduct a search for diverse board members. That takes away the usual excuse of not being able to find anyone 'qualified.' So that means recruiters and executive search firms need to also start thinking more inclusively.
