Building Long-Term Prosperity Through Occupational Health and Safety Commitment at Batu Hijau Mine

At the conclusion of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Month, PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara ("AMMAN") held a closing ceremony on Wednesday, 21 February 2024 at the Batu Hijau site in the West Sumbawa regency (KSB) of? West Nusa Tenggara. The ceremony, led by AMMAN Head of Mine Engineering (KTT) Wudi Raharjo, was attended by employees and business partners both in person and online. The event included an Anti-Drug Movement Declaration to demonstrate the company's commitment to ensuring the long-term welfare of employees with a zero-tolerance policy for the use of illicit drugs.

“OHS Month is vital to increase awareness and commitment to occupational health and safety within the company. AMMAN conducted more than 23 strategic activities involving 120 business partners and 5,000 employees. These activities serve to enhance the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to implement OHS culture at work,” said Wudi.

“The month showcased OHS empowerment in the company. AMMAN has demonstrated a strong commitment and determination to achieve a superior mining-safety culture,” Wudi added.

As one of the largest copper-and-gold-mining companies in Indonesia, AMMAN strives to provide a safe, healthy, and conducive working environment for all employees while minimizing the risks of workplace hazards, injuries, and occupational diseases. This focus aligns with AMMAN's spirit to commemorate National Workers' Day on last Tuesday, February 20, 2024. AMMAN will continue to conduct training sessions to enhance the understanding of all employees and business partners regarding the implementation of OHS. The scope of these programs includes communities around the mining area.

One program involving employees and the community is ‘Food Hygiene Seminar: Food Safety as a Driver of Employee Performance’. The seminar, which was attended by dozens of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), representatives from the KATALA Batu Hijau Cooperative and the Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara Family Association (IKANURA), educated residents living in proximity to the mine about the importance of preventing food from being contaminated with harmful substances.

In another event, AMMAN invited Dr. dr. Yusra Pintaningrum, SpJP(K), FIHA, FAPSC, FasCC, Cardiologist at Risa Sentra Medika Mataram Hospital, to address the dangers of smoking in 'Health Talk: Stop Smoking, Love Your Heart'. AMMAN also promoted OHS culture in the wider community through the seminar ‘Off the Job Safety: Driving Traffic Safety Socialization’ given to motorcyclists in Maluk Market, KSB, and students of SMKN 1 Maluk.

“For monitoring and evaluation, AMMAN conducts monthly site-wide safety committee meetings to measure OHS performance levels and produce a roadmap for further development of OHS culture,” Wudi concluded.

In this year's National K3 Month, AMMAN also presented awards to several employees and business partners who were considered outstanding and had a good track record in occupational health and safety performance.
