Building Leaders & Strengthening Communities: AWAG's Legacy and Future

Americans Working Around the Globe (AWAG) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization committed to building leaders who strengthen and connect communities worldwide. Our mission is to train, empower, and unite American-affiliated communities through leadership development training, volunteerism, and networking opportunities.

In 1946, AWAG began as a collective of spouses coordinating the distribution of relief aid sent by stateside clubs and church groups to post-war Germany. The organization evolved over the years, and in 1957, it held its first conference, setting the stage for the impactful events we host today. As the supporting spouse club organizations modernized and expanded their reach, a new name was adopted in 2011 to reflect this growth: American Women’s Activities, Germany became Americans Working Around the Globe and in 2014, AWAG proudly achieved tax-exempt nonprofit status, solidifying our commitment to our mission.

The 2023/24 Board of Directors, comprising around 15 dedicated professional volunteers, successfully executed the 68th Annual Leadership and Development Training Seminar in the picturesque setting of Garmisch at the Edelweiss Lodge and Resort. Through their leadership, dedication, and tenacity, AWAG implemented a new digital registration system, streamlining the process for over 200 attendees. This commitment to excellence raised and strategically allocated over $50,000, hosted more than 30 influential speakers, and secured eight corporate sponsors and 21 outreach contributors, providing a comprehensive and enriching experience for all.

But AWAG is more than its statistics and achievements. As our 2023/24 Chairperson, Mrs. Codie Seier , eloquently says, "AWAG is an experience." The energy, networking, and joy experienced over four days in Garmisch, where US-affiliated active-duty military, government contractors, civilians, and spouses come together from across Europe, must be felt firsthand. It is a time for learning, growing, sharing, connecting, and embracing the unique AWAG esprit de corps.

We look forward to continuing this tradition with the 69th Annual Leadership and Development Training Seminar, scheduled for April 27 - May 1, 2025. Stay tuned for more details, and join us in this transformative experience.
