Building an inclusive workplace culture... starting with language

Building an inclusive workplace culture... starting with language

The words we use often hold the greatest power we have to make a difference. Yet, often, they are spoken without thought.

Language can often be the first thing to offend or hurt another person. It is also the thing that sets a first impression or tone to a conversation. Most of us would apologise if we were to call another person by the wrong name, so why should any language we use about them be any different?

Using inclusive language is about using language to be accurate about another person. Another human being. It is the easiest, quickest way you can empower a person to have their own personal identity: to feel like themselves. If a person was to ask you to make a reasonable adjustment so that they can achieve the best they can in the workplace, most wouldn't hesitate. This is exactly the same.

It is in our best interests to enable our team to be the best that they can be. We'd love to empower you to start conversations and challenge misconceptions by inviting you and your colleagues to attend our upcoming online open course. At only £140+ VAT per person, it is the perfect small investment with potentially huge impact:

Turns out "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never harm me" is totally wrong.
