Building With a Healthy Team

At the weekend I was in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria- to support one of my business partners. It was a trip that I should have embarked on for a while, but for one reason or another it delayed. Before the trip, most of our conversation and business interactions were via phone. It was after I got to Abeokuta that it dawned on me that the last time, we met was about 5years ago. A few things came to mind as I x-rayed our relationship:
Regardless of the physical distance, my friend never betrayed our friendship and the trust invested in our relationship. This for me is very important and key in any kind of relationship. In business dealings with people such quality is important. I have taken a number of relationship risks and I’ve been hurt. In the process I have learned that some relationships are best at the basic level- mutual and nothing more. Not every trusted mutual friend will do well as a business partner. Retaining integrity when the relationship involves money is a different ball game.
Every relationship needs servicing. Keeping in touch is a serious work. Just like a machine requires regular servicing, our relationships should be serviced from time to time. Relationship servicing is serious work and sometimes will cost you. It could cost you time, money or other resources. The relationship with my friend, Abisola, reminds me that you will always need people to expand and reach more people. Combining efforts with others often increases our chances of succeeding.
My kind of business requires that I constantly provide support for my team members because their success in the business is key to mine. In other words, my success is dependent on the success of my team members. Team work is key. No one succeeds alone. Providing support and ensuring that I pour myself into my team member does go a long way to propel my success and my team members success. I also belong to a team where I have enjoyed massive support from my team leaders, why shouldn’t I do same for others. That is one of the reasons I started the business.
Before I close for today let me say this again- before you join a team or any business, be sure the team spirit is healthy. It will go a long way to influence your success in that venture. Thanks for reading and have a blessed week.
Your friend in learning.
