Building Habits with ADHD

Building Habits with ADHD

October marks ADHD Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of ADHD. It's an opportunity to highlight the unique challenges faced by adults with ADHD, especially when it comes to forming and maintaining habits. Research shows that adults with ADHD often struggle with creating consistent routines, with studies indicating that around 50% of adults with ADHD have difficulty establishing daily habits due to impulsivity and executive functioning challenges. These statistics underscore the importance of developing tailored approaches that cater to the neurodivergent mind.

A recurring theme emerged in recent conversations with our coaching clients: the search for alternatives to the famous "75" program. While this intense fitness and self-improvement regimen is embraced by many as a team-building exercise, it poses significant challenges for those with neurodivergent brains. The program's rigid structure, demanding daily tasks, and the requirement to restart upon missing a day can feel like a setup for failure for individuals with ADHD.

As an ADHD Life, Health, and Mindset Coach, I understand the need for flexibility and adaptability in any self-improvement journey. The "Hard" program, with its strict adherence to tasks like two 45-minute workouts, specific diets, and daily progress photos, can be overwhelming for those with ADHD. The impulsivity and executive functioning challenges associated with ADHD make it difficult to stick to such a rigid routine. Moreover, the pressure to meet these requirements can lead to stress, anxiety, and burnout, exacerbating ADHD symptoms.

Recognizing these challenges, about a year ago, my bestie Vida Carey M. Ed. and I embarked on creating an alternative that aligns with the ADHD brain's needs. Enter "DOPE 66," (for my fellow Star Wars fans, think Order 66), a program designed to flood the brain with dopamine and focus on building new, positive micro-habits over 66 days. We all know you can't break a bad habit, but you must replace it with dopamine and micro habits to create lasting change! This approach acknowledges that it takes an ADHD brain 66 days to establish lasting habits, offering a more flexible and supportive journey. With DOPE 66, individuals with ADHD can find relief from the overwhelming nature of traditional programs and a profound sense of comfort in a program that truly understands and supports their unique needs, providing a reassuring and comforting experience.

Traditional approaches to habit-building often rely on rigid structures and 'hard' programs, which can be overwhelming and unsustainable for many. However, we've crafted a nontoxic, inclusive program that harnesses the power of sustained dopamine release. This concept is the key to our program's success as it helps you create that much-needed dopamine hit consistently throughout each day. Coupled with community support, we foster lasting change.

Our program is designed to be a safe and welcoming space for everyone, regardless of their neurodiversity. During our sessions, attendees will delve into the core principles of this innovative framework, learning how micro-changes and community engagement can empower individuals to overcome obstacles and cultivate lifelong habits. This emphasis on inclusivity ensures that everyone feels accepted and valued, fostering a sense of belonging and community.

Discover the secrets behind our 22-day sprint breakdowns and habit-building weekly checklist, designed to make habit formation accessible and achievable for everyone. Whether you're struggling with ADHD, ASD, PTSD, or simply feeling burnt out, our sessions offer practical insights and tools to help you embark on a journey of personal growth and transformation. Take this chance to revolutionize your approach to habit-building and discover a path to sustainable change tailored to your unique needs. Don't just take our word for it; hear from individuals who have successfully transformed their lives with the DOPE 66 program. Because of how much we believe in creating space for ADHDers that is accessible and affordable, we have made this program a FREE option for our community, providing a sense of support and care.

As we celebrate ADHD Awareness Month, let's recognize the diversity within the ADHD community and promote solutions that honor individual differences. Doing so empowers adults with ADHD to thrive personally and professionally, fostering a more inclusive and understanding society. This recognition and empowerment can inspire and motivate us all to contribute to a more inclusive and understanding society where everyone's unique needs are acknowledged and celebrated.
