Building Futures: Why We Believe in Apprenticeships

We appointed our first apprentice in 2008, at this time TPS Global Logistics was a team of 2 experienced logistics operators who felt they had the knowledge and skills to develop individuals.

To us having the right attitude is more important than experience.

Katie Mills, currently our Air Freight and European Director, was our first apprentice. We have supported 20 apprentices over the last 17 years, as well as Katie Mills , we have Paige Carpenter , Amy Pope , Samantha Brown , Rebekah Paton and Lily Ricketts working with us in various departments.

Our apprentice scheme has been very successful, we have established a path of training and development for apprentice career progression within the company. Our apprentices work through a variety of roles, learning the warehouse system, freight forwarding, sales and operations, whilst studying and passing NVQ ‘s. This hands-on system means we can identify their strengths and weaknesses to ensure they are supported and developed, and ultimately they end up working in the area of the business that is best suited to their individual skills.

The company benefits from gaining a fully engaged and versatile employee, with a deep and rounded knowledge of our industry and our business, and the ability to link all the departments, therefore delivering a comprehensive end to end customer service. ?

It is a 2-way learning experience, from their insights into the company we develop job descriptions, roles and responsibilities, apprentices often introduce new skills, and a fresh view of the business which benefits the whole team. We like working with individuals who are keen to learn and develop whilst working alongside experienced team members – we find we all continue to learn.

Across our 46 employees we have over 400 years of warehouse, logistics and freight experience and by working alongside these individuals a huge amount of valuable knowledge is gained and shared!
