Building Futures: Skilling and Employability Program Supported by IG Group
As part of our ongoing commitment to empowering youth through skill development, I had the privilege of interacting with students at various institutions in Khamgaon, Nagpur, which provided a comprehensive view of the transformative impact of the training program and placement opportunities. These engagements, combined with placement drives, highlighted the significant strides made in building employable skills and creating career opportunities for youth, particularly from marginalized backgrounds.
I began by interacting with over 200 students from GS College and Surajdevi Mohta Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Khamgaon. A key observation from the interaction was that 95% of the students were first-generation college-goers, with 80% being female beneficiaries. Most students came from families of farmers and labourers, traveling an average of 20-30 km daily to attend the training program. Their unwavering commitment to improving their lives was evident as they shared their learning experiences and expectations. Many students, especially the female participants, expressed concerns about transitioning into the corporate world, citing challenges such as adapting to corporate culture, overcoming language barriers, building self-confidence, and relocating for work. However, the training had significantly boosted their confidence and sense of independence, helping them overcome these hurdles and prepare for a brighter future.
A notable takeaway from the interaction was the students' appreciation for the accessibility of the program. Many expressed that enrolling in such courses independently would have been financially impossible for them. They were deeply grateful for the opportunity to receive industry- relevant training at no cost, which greatly enhanced their employability and opened new career doors.
In addition to the interaction, a historic placement drive took place at Surajdevi Mohta Mahila Mahavidyalaya on 27th January 2025, marking the first-ever placement event since the college’s inception in 1989. The drive, organized under the Skilling & Employability Training Program supported by IG Group, connected 130 students with career opportunities from participating companies such as IDFC First Bank, SBI Bank (Quess Corp), and Muthoot Finance. After rigorous assessments, 45 students, including 35 female candidates, were successfully shortlisted, a remarkable achievement that highlighted the drive’s success.
Another successful placement drive took place at City Premier College, Nagpur, on 23rd January 2025. The focus was on the Data Science and Analytics batches from Dhanwate National College and City Premier College. Esteemed guests, including Dr. Gawande, Principal of City Premier College, and Dr. Deepali Naidu, Vice Principal, inaugurated the event. HR representatives from leading organizations such as Infocept, Fireblaze, Choira Musictech, Byke Retreat, and Cybertron conducted interviews. Out of 74 candidates, 22 were shortlisted, offering a promising future in the expanding field of Data Science and Analytics.
Additionally, I had the opportunity to engage with students from the BPM Banking batches at Annasaheb Gundewar College, Nagpur, during their three-day NSS camp in Yerala, a village on the outskirts of Nagpur. This informal setting allowed students to openly share their experiences with the training program. Initially, many students had little knowledge of how the BPM course could enhance their career prospects. However, through the training, they recognized its potential in improving their employability and building self-reliance. The students' newfound confidence, coupled with the skills they had gained, opened doors for further learning and professional opportunities.
These interactions and placement drives highlight the immense potential of skill development programs in shaping the futures of students, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds. The training programs not only provide students with the technical skills required in today’s competitive job market but also instill confidence and a sense of empowerment, paving the way for a better future. By offering these opportunities at no cost, we are able to reach students who otherwise might not have access to such training, truly transforming their lives and prospects.
Through the success of these events and the continuous feedback from students, it is clear that skill development initiatives like these play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between education and employment. The dedication and perseverance of these students are a testament to the impact that such programs can have on their lives, their families, and their communities.
