Building the Future: A Summer of Exploring, Architecture, Spatial Computing and Generative AI

This summer was a whirl wind of change, both personally and professionally.? I embarked on my own journey of discovery by attending Sci-Arc's Institute of experimental architecture, Southern California Institute of Architecture, affectionately known as Sci-Arc for their annual Making+Meaning program. This journey wasn't just about becoming an architectural designer but shaping the future of spatial computing and evolving as a creative technologist that wants to help build the digital future. It? would also reshape my artistic path as a researcher and content creator.?
The notion of shaping not just spaces but immersive experiences has always captivated me. Inspired by the innovative spirit at Sci-Arc, I launched my Instagram Gallery @humandatastructures dedicated to Generative Art & Research (TikTok coming soon), where I'll go in depth on each case study for my curated gallery.
This digital canvas became the platform for me to explore the boundless possibilities of creative expression. Over the summer, I embarked on a mission to create 50 case studies, each interrogating a different topic, from people and conceptual design to everyday objects. It challenged my creative boundaries and gave me an opportunity to exhibit my work in my first group art show.
Beyond architecture, a large part of my career has been dedicated to empowering and enabling creative authoring. I know a thing or two about shipping products for technical artists and designers. This summer my workflow included experimenting with an architectural design workflow Rhino 3D, Blender, Maya, Cinema 4D and Z-Brush with a mix of generative AI. As I reflect on this transformative summer and my deep dive into creative tools, it's clear that the future holds exciting prospects for content creators
When you set out to create anything it can be both exhilarating and nerve wracking. No creative briefs, quarterly planning, sales revenues or product releases to drive you; Just your ideas, creative freedom and a blank slate. As AI tools improve, new and existing platforms are being designed to give you more creative control. What will you, your users or enterprise customers do with their blank spatial canvases? Do you know what they value? You’ll need to know the answer to that question as you build your go to market strategies, and serve up new content for audiences.
This year has hinted at the emergence of a wave of Spatial Auteurs who will harness the power of personal devices and hardware. The evolution of AI-driven platforms and the increasing autonomy and flexibility offer a signal of the new era in personal narrative driven content that is coming. We are adapting quickly to technological advances powered by machine learning poised to bring our visions to life, enhancing the way we interact with the world, one immersive experience at a time.
I want to give another thank you to the Making+Meaning faculty, staff, and a special shout out to cohort 23. For more information about Sci-Arc and their academic programs visit www.sciarc.edu
