Concrete Milestone: A Historic Pour in the Thompson Nicola Region
In 2020, Acres reached a milestone achievement in the Thompson Nicola, carrying out a monumental 2,200m3 concrete pour for the Thickened Amended Tailings (TAT) Building at New Gold Mine. This ambitious project featured a unique 28-sided symmetrical polygon foundation, spanning over 40 meters in diameter and requiring an impressive 600,000 kg of rebar.
The pour began in the early morning hours of November 27, 2020, in which our team worked with two Kamloops batch plants, using three concrete pumps to achieve a pour rate of 160m3 per hour. Beginning at 5:00 AM and wrapping up 10:30 PM, we successfully poured a total of 2,200m3 over nearly 16 hours, with over 200 trips to site.
This project was particularly noteworthy as it occurred during the COVID pandemic. Our team navigated the challenges presented by implementing strict safety protocols, ensuring that everyone remained safe while maintaining productivity. Completing such a massive pour with zero incidents is a testament to our commitment to safety and teamwork.

An Acres Industrial Spotlight: Merritt Green Energy Biomass Plant
A standout project, Acres was the contractor of choice for the Merritt Green Energy Biomass Plant. In Phase 1, Acres took the lead in early works construction, providing early works construction including site stripping and leveling, installed critical underground utilities, and set concrete foundations for all buildings and structures.
We moved 60,000 cubic meters of earth, installed 450,000 kg of reinforcing steel, poured 3,000 cubic meters of concrete, and laid 2 kilometers of water line.

Building a Client's Vision From the Ground Up
Our team's specialty is bringing our clients' visions to life.
Barkman Concrete and Manufacturing Facility in Merritt is a shining example of this concept.
From the civil works to the building construction, Acres saw this project through from start to finish, including the equipment installation.
This project included the construction of a 40,000 sq. ft. concrete paver plant, and civil works of an approximately 10-acre site. Acres managed and coordinated all design consultants and subtrades for all design, pre-construction and construction.
The building structure consists of a pre-engineered structural steel building, with structurally insulated wall panels, interior architectural finishes, mechanical and electrical. The building includes reception, offices, lunch and change rooms, washrooms, and control rooms for operators.
A Client's Perspective

As part of our Indigenous Engagement Plan, we are committed to learning and taking action as an ally to Indigenous Peoples year-round, which includes cultural awareness training for all employees.
Throughout the month of September, our team was fortunate to take part in several events to raise awareness around the history and lasting impacts of residential schools in Canada, while supporting organizations and events that contribute to reconciliation.
From the annual Music for the People event to the Every Child Matters Hockey Game, our team was committed to supporting these impactful initiatives.
