Building the Future of Gaming Tech in India with Young Innovators

One of the country’s sunrise industries, the gaming sector in India is expected to surpass $5 billion in net revenue by 2025, as per India Brand Equity Foundation. Internet affordability, growing smartphone penetration, and significant demographic advantage – with 46% of India’s population under the age of 25 and 67% falling in the working class – are the primary growth drivers of the industry.

Being one of the fastest-growing gaming companies in India, Junglee Games endeavors to accelerate the growth and development of the industry by making investments in cutting-edge technologies and nurturing young talents in the country. Supporting the company’s sharp focus on digital technology and transformation across the organization and the product portfolio, the Talent Acquisition team at Junglee Games took the lead in searching for talents ready for the challenge of building a career in gaming technology.

The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India also expressed his faith in the power of the nation’s youth saying, “The youth of India has the strength to move the entire world with a click of a mouse; we have generated that ability!”? This thought became the motivation and theme for our recent hiring drive at Junglee Games.??

Junglee Games’ Campus Hiring Season 2022-23: Qualities We Looked For

Our campus recruitment drive commenced in July last year, but the process kick-started months in advance. We collaborated with senior leaders to design candidate personas ideal for open positions in varied departments, with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) at the heart of the overall strategy. Questions such as “Should the ideal candidate have a stellar academic record, or do we need people with divergent thinking?” “Are technical skills more important or should we hire candidates with a learning attitude to help us create value-driven products for our customers?” were considered. After numerous brainstorming sessions, surveys, and analyses, we concluded that priority should be given to candidates’ personalities, creativity, leadership capabilities, and innovative and non-conventional ways of thinking.

Scouring for the Brightest Minds?

The next challenge was identifying the right educational institutions to provide us with the suitable candidates we sought. So we initiated our search for top engineering and business management schools and ranked them on pre-decided criteria for our campus search. We approached a total of 28 colleges across 12 states in India for the best possible slots, including IIM Raipur, Symbiosis Centre For Management and Human Resource Development, GLIM, Chennai, IIT Bhubaneswar, IIT Hyderabad, and IIT Patna. We planned to pick candidates from the top 25% of students in each college. So booking early slots at every college wasn’t easy. It took several rounds of negotiations and pushback to eventually crack the deal.?

Interacting Online and Offline

At Junglee Games, listening to employees actively is critical to ensuring our people feel connected with the company’s vision and goals. As recruiters, we needed to develop a deeper level of understanding and high engagement with the candidates. So we decided to conduct sessions in both online and offline modes where our leaders could assess the candidates and the candidates could gain a better understanding of the company as well as the gaming industry. Offline events also helped us develop a higher brand recall and provide a glimpse of what it means to be part of Junglee Games.?

After an exciting campus hiring season that spanned over 7 months covering 28 colleges from 12 states – Agartala to Chennai, Bhubaneshwar in the east to Pune in the west – we found the right people for our business and are thrilled to welcome 68 new Junglees aboard.

About 50% of the hires have already joined us as interns in January 2023. They now rub shoulders with our experienced teams and leaders and are undergoing training that will form the foundation of their professional careers. A carefully devised induction and on-boarding plan is being followed religiously across tech and data teams.?

The remaining 50% of the candidates are in their final year and are yet to join us. To ensure active engagement with them, we run regular engagement campaigns such as fortnightly virtual webinars, birthday e-cards, and monthly sessions with the campus hiring team to ensure that all their queries are answered promptly.

Building upon the success of last year’s campus hiring, we look forward to Junglee Games’ Campus Hiring Season 2023-24 with plans to provide more opportunities to the youth and bring aboard the talent that supports Junglee Games’ vision of revolutionizing the gaming industry in India.?
