Prolonged earth movements are a common phenomenon in Japan, but it was not until the last century or so that buildings started to incorporate adequate provision for the incidence of earthquakes.
The Holy Resurrection Cathedral (復活大聖堂, fukkatsu daiseidō, Russian: Токийский собор Воскресения), also known as Nikorai-do (ニコライ堂, nikorai-dō), is the main cathedral of the Japanese Orthodox Church, located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan. - Wikipedia Nikorai-do. The original cathedral was seriously damaged in the Great Kantō earthquake of September 1923. Thanks to donors and designers, the rebuild of the cathedral was celebrated in December 1929. The structure incorporated a shorter bell tower, a modified dome, and other changes to better cope with earthquakes.
Since then, many buildings in Japan have been redesigned or retrofitted to cope with 'prolonged earth movement'. In one such endeavour in 2013, Mitsui Fudosan and Kajima Corporation began installing six massive pendulums on the roof of the Shinjuku Mitsui building to counter long periods of ground motion. The pendulums reduce the magnitude of building motion by half or more during a major earthquake. - Wikipedia Shinjuku Mitsui.
These changes to edifices were in response to unavoidable variables in their environment. The former had to be rebuilt, having been damaged by an earthquake. The latter, anticipating earthquake damage, was proactively modified. However, these days, many structures in Japan, are designed and built to be earthquake-safe. Apparently, no building is earthquake-proof!
What is true for earthquakes could also be said to be true for Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI represents a series of inter-related seismic shifts in the way our world operates. The initial movement (tectonic plates) are the technology, however, as with earthquakes, the shock waves spread far beyond the locus of impact. Within the next decade, most areas of human interaction will have been influenced, or totally transformed, by the introduction of AI.
Yes, you could rebuild your systems to integrate with AI, like the Nikorai-do, or retrospectively adapt to incorporate AI. But, wouldn't it be better if you put in the protection now, by evolving your culture (people) and systems, in parallel, to integrate AI into your world view and your approach to value creation?

Our team, colleagues and I speak business, fluently. But we also understand the tech, especially the AI tools, frameworks, practises and philosophy. You should be interested in what your sector and the competition are doing with AI. We are, and we will help you to understand the likely impact and potential changes in the dynamics of the sector. There will be opportunities, and with each, there will be options and attendant implications. It might seem like a labyrinth, but there are proven paths to success through the technology maze. We will not reinvent the wheel. Learning from our own successes and those of others that we have researched, your journey and transition will be more rewarding, effective and efficient.
Where are you going this year, and what are your enterprise/corporate aspirations? No doubt, you will have included AI as a consideration or area of interest, but better still, as a transformation pillar. Whatever your starting point, though, we partner with you, to ensure that you grasp the foundations, gain insights, and continually evolve with confidence, because digital transformation is a continuum rather than a destination.
We are accomplished in visioning and strategising for technology transformation across many sectors, and have success stories from several cultures (social & business) and countries. Have you ever thought of the socio-cultural impact of AI within your organisation as you evolve with the technology, or the importance of a communication strategy that resonates inclusion, honesty and the greatest good? We bring a wide variety of skills and perspectives to bear on every question, option and decision that you will face, ensuring broad participation that brings out the best in your teams and reveals the most promising changes and the relevant operational tactics.
It is time to articulate and embrace a new organisational world-view, one that will be resilient to the shocks of AI. Nikorai-do was a tragic turning point for some, while Shinjuku Mitsui was an opportune, reactive adjustment for others. Be strategically prepared for the inevitable impact of AI with a vision and strategy for evolution that protects your BAU while also revealing and exploiting beneficial changes.
Let's talk.
