Over 100 qualified people applied. Dozens of highly qualified candidates were interviewed. A handful of super candidates were double or triple interviewed. And three college rockstars made the cut for the inaugural, 2021, paid intern program.?
On June 24, 2020, I sat in the park six blocks away from our office with a heavy heart. . . The world was in chaos as fear and sickness were everywhere. Prior to this moment, my big dream was to be able to live anywhere in the world at any time. It was my guiding light as I built our company. But I realized I was thinking way too small.?I realized I could do more, be more, give more.?
So at that moment, sitting on a red metal chair with my brown leather notebook, I chose to make a difference in the lives of others around me. I chose to give instead of taking, which led me to write down my new mission:?
"To create a legacy of success, health, prosperity, and goodwill in perpetuity."
The stars aligned with this one thought: "I can create a path to eventually help 250 university students learn real-world experiences, earn money, and qualify for a scholarship.?And if just 1% of those students carry this mission forward, it has an exponential value. I.e., in perpetuity."

Fast forward to today, as fall has arrived and the summer program has passed, I remember how I felt just before we started the search. I was fearful of this massive plan failing. But I was more fearful of NOT making a difference in the lives of others around me. I pulled the trigger, and we had a great summer with 3 new interns that brought so much value to the company, our clients, our staff, and myself.
I'm so motivated for the future. Next Spring, we'll bring on paid interns that all hopefully earn a scholarship after the program. And the following year? 27, and so on.?
Each of us is challenged with fear; some way, somehow. Imagine what you can do if you reach outside of your comfort zone and take action on a wild idea.
