Building Emotion @ AHRExpo.com Atlanta

You are at the world’s largest HVACR event, with the most comprehensive gathering of industry professionals from around the globe and we all are engaged in Building Emotion for our products and services in the sense of both the nouns and the verbs.

Even though our product and services are very real we virtually marketed them; we need to enter today’s virtual world and instill emotion, using vivid graphics and words of want to play on the emotion of our clients.

"Emotion" is the noun and verb used to describe the creation and depiction of a mindful interactive relationship — a conversation if you will — between the user and their devices and services. It is a virtual identity, a feeling, a learning, an interactive piece, a virtual brick-and-mortar that hosts the emotion.

The building blocks of our digital transformation are a mindset, people, process, and tools. Note that tools, which equal our technology, devices, and services is the last item.

We as an industry tend to focus on tools first, then try to trowel over mindset, people, and process. This is not working.

We need to learn how to think more like software developers creating awesome user experiences for our products. We need to understand better how to be agile and sensitive to Humanistic Digital Inclusion and Digital Mindfulness on our new road to people-centric products. Humanistic Inclusion is the new road that winds through our old building-centric thoughts while taking us to the new world of people-centric buildings.

How might we best achieve the necessary intellect and emotional intelligence for our implementations? We need to grasp the feelings of the people with empathy in our buildings and somehow incorporate those feelings into our evolving digital models.

Look, Listen, Feel and Think before Reacting

As an industry, we have always left the touchy/feelie part of our buildings to the behavioral scientists and psychologists. Our rapid digital transformation of everything has exposed (made transparent) the location, presence, even the mood, and feeling of the occupants (those pesky people!) who are our reason for the building and providing our services in the first place.

UX is User Experience and refers to a person's emotions and attitudes about using a product or service. Whether you view “building” as a noun or a verb, we as an industry need to create Awesome User Experiences

The automotive industry has come to understand that there is now a software industry. As purveyors of Building Systems, we need to come to the same realization. We are not just using the Internet of Things we are the IoT for buildings.

We are taking our never-ending story about The Future of Building Automation and Creating our new persona "Building Emotion" to Atlanta, with 10 free education sessions.

What has changed in the last 20 years of the Internet? Cost is down; speed is up, everything has an IP address, the internet has become clouded with powerful microcomputers now out on the edge, self-learning and sharing their intelligence with everyone – and everyone is continuously connected.

Yes, their emotions and our Building Emotion are continuously connected.
