Building the Future Commission
It was another busy week for the #BuildingtheFuture Commission. First up in the workplace, culture and leadership stream of the commission, this piece by?David Rogers?highlights how?Sir Robert McAlpine?have teamed up with?Timewise?to pilot flexible working on its sites. In the energy & net zero stream, Thomas Lane?looks at whether alternative Australian energy ratings system NABERS can provide a better solution to current regulations in the UK. We also introduced two more of our commissioners The London School of Architecture 's Neal Shasore and Trowers & Hamlins ' Dr Rebecca Rees . You can read the former here and the latter here.
From the Archives
In December 1864, and nearly 35 years after construction had started, the world’s longest chain bridge opened in Bristol. The origins of Clifton Suspension Bridge went back even further, to 1753, when a local merchant left £1,000 in his will with instructions to build a bridge over the Avon Gorge when the money had grown to £10,000 through interest.?The news in the week's instalment of From the Archives from Tom Lowe , explores that story. A great addition to the series that is part of #Building180's anniversary celebrations.
