Building consistency that builds the momentum of success

Consistency is a SUPERPOWER ?? ♀?

Let’s talk about building consistency in your habits, processes, practices, and daily life (and how to build momentum and SUCCESS).

Why does consistency matter? Why do we need processes and habits every day? Sometimes it feels easier to just let the day come to us, let it happen, and enjoy that feeling right??

Here's the problem with that…

A lot of the time we think that freedom comes from being able to make decisions on the fly. The problem with that is that everything is a decision. Everything that you approach, everything that you do, it all takes time and means making real decisions, meaning there is a cost involved in it.?

So here's how I want you to think differently: I want you to recognise that having habits and building consistency actually GIVES you more freedom.?

When we have consistency, our own level of discipline and self-control allows us to maintain focus and dedication.?

And I speak from experience here. It can be very easy to say I'm going to back off this. Instead it's worth building these habits and processes, because then when the going gets tough, you're more likely to take action anyway. If you have established a habit, you'd have to make a decision NOT to take the action because your habits are telling you to take action even if it's uncomfortable.?

If something becomes the norm for you, it suddenly becomes harder to NOT do that thing, than it would be to just do the thing - you see??

There might still be some discomfort to work through. Some things may still be hard, but there’s going to be a lower barrier to participation.

Consistent habits allow us to have that stronger dedication to our goals. At the end of the day, there is no gold medal for doing really hard work. There's a gold medal for what you ACHIEVED. So what if by building consistency, you made it easier to achieve things? Sounds good right!

The other thing that happens when we build consistency is we build discipline, accountability and self responsibility.?

Now actually, these things in themselves CREATE consistency, but it's a self-reinforcing cycle. You build one, you develop it, you hone it, you refine it, and you will find that it's easier to deliver on all these things.?

So actually building habits, processes, and practices into your daily life helps you across the board in terms of your discipline, and your ability to get down to work in the morning.?

Self-accountability is a muscle that can be trained.

If you've trained it by having habits that say “I’m going to hold myself accountable”, even when you're thrown something completely new that you don't have a habit or process aligned with, you are more likely to be able to apply that self-discipline in that new instance.?

Think about brushing your teeth. This is always the one I love to share because brushing my teeth is something I've never NOT done. Brushing my teeth is so ingrained into who I am. It's such an easy thing to do. I don't think about it.?

Whereas I know that building a habit to exercise is hard. It's not something I've done my entire life, I’ve ebbed and flowed and it doesn't come easily to me so I don't have that consistency.?

When I have built a habit of more regular exercising, everything else becomes a little bit easier. Because there's one less thing that I'm having to talk myself into doing every day.?
