Building a Connection: Why Storytelling Beats Hard Selling in Business

For my birthday, I sat at a lunch table with ladies and gents aged 81-106. Not one person sitting there wished they had more money. Not one of them wished they had worked more.?
They wished they had more visitors. Which cost nothing other than time for the people they wished they could see.?
I didn't work much yesterday. I sat with my journal and my thoughts. I was very humbled by the conversation and energized by the fun flow of their conversation.
I opened an email from a client I have worked with. Who said she finally started telling her story - two years later!
My friend's product has been ready for purchase, and she emailed her list of 400-ish people to let them know. Stories. Good lord. Crazy sales from a super tiny list.?
Check this out:
It's taken almost TWO YEARS for her to get brave enough to bring the product to her market list ...which means the list has been waiting to hear from her forever.
Instead of sending the generic "Oh boy, now you can buy my stuff!" type of email, she shared a story.
It was the story of how hard it was to be brave enough to share the product, how hard it was to trust her own story experience, and how she found the product after remembering times spent with her grandmother in Ukraine.?
She didn't have to buy lab equipment, formulate it herself, and explain how the company started. She didn't have to purchase the supplies to package the product or worry about the shipping methods.
Yes. It was a long email wordy email.
It didn't even have a link to buy or anything.?
Just that long (and accurate) story.
The "pitch" at the end said, "if you want me to save a bottle for you, write me back."
She did over $1,000 in sales from that email that day

...To a list of around 400 people who haven't heard from her in forever.
What's your story?
I bet you have one worth telling.
Bet you'd sell a whole more if you told it ...
If people KNEW you had a product to sell, they would become your customer.?
Why do we wait to live the life we dream of?
