I'm excited to share an end of the year summary written by Northeast Resiliency Consortium (NRC), Communications Assistant, Alexandra Shinert. The NRC has certainly accomplished a lot in 2016 and we look forward to an even better 2017. Great job by all!
As 2016 comes to a close, we look back on a year spent building and sharing: building conversations into practices and stories, building connections into relationships and community, and building our own resiliency and understanding its impact. This year was an opportunity for us to understand and share the work of individuals within our community who are contributing to our collective impact. We began the year defining and highlighting the philosophical foundation of our work and coming to terms with the idea that we couldn’t just talk about resiliency in our own terms, we needed a shared vocabulary that would allow others to understand our work. As we began exploring if and how resiliency can be taught, our answer allowed us to share the stories and experiences of individuals across our consortium who are, in fact, teaching and developing resiliency in others (and themselves). At the same time, we began to develop communications that reflected this kind of sharing. The creation of our Resiliency Roundtable captured the voices of faculty who intentionally place roadblocks in a student’s path, while our Youtube Channel helped to further visualize what accomplishment looks and feels like through a student’s perspective.
We were able to share stories like these with national audiences, and in doing so, invited others to be a part of our community as we shared our knowledge and resources. This year, we continued to define our impact and build our community while telling our story, one that is woven within the job developer who goes the extra mile for their students, or the adaptive learning partner who adapts with us, and the community of educators who are ready to make resiliency a reality in 2017.
