Building Collaboration in Teams with Storytelling

Building Collaboration in Teams with Storytelling

If you are an HR leader, let me guess:

A recurring peeve you hear from your business leader is how the teams could get more collaborative.

A large percentage of my leadership development sessions have this ask at the center: how do I make my team come together in spirit? Bring more ideas to the table? Get creative, agile, and inclusive?

At?LIGHTHOUSE?I begin the process a step backward.

I start by talking about Perspectives.

Perspectives!

I work with that word before I even begin to talk about collaboration, connection and communication.

Because in life and at work - we are all looking in the same direction yet seeing so differently.

Storytelling is all about narratives, and a narrative borne out of a single perspective is often what becomes our real stumbling block in life.

You crack that shell when you invite more perspectives.

But, how do you help people get rich with alternate and contrarian perspectives?

Often in my Storytelling programs, you'll find the participants huddled in role-plays.

Listening circles, sharing circles, you name it!

I believe Collaboration is not a skillset, it is an outcome of character building.

To be open ourselves to acknowledge, understand, and appreciate perspectives - even when we find them contrary to our own ideas - is the character building we need to be able to shift from Competition to Collaboration.

In building a team spirit, or in creating a gender-inclusive culture at workplaces.

In creating leaders of tomorrow, or in ensuring everyone works with their strengths in a project...

Perspectives pave the path.
Build it with the help of Story Circles.
