Building a Business That Runs Without You
Fellow business owners and entrepreneurs, here’s a question for you:
Do you work for your business or does your business work for you?
If you’re not sure how to answer that, ask yourself this question:
“If I stepped away from my business for a month, a week or even a day, with little or no involvement, what would happen?”
Would your business thrive? Just survive? Or fail catastrophically?
If you want a business that works for you rather than the other way round, check out this week’s The Lever with more on building a business that runs without you.
1 FACT:
“Organize around business functions, not people. Build systems within each business function. Let systems run the business and people run the systems. People come and go but the systems remain constant.”
(Michael Gerber, E-Myth Revisited).
1 TIP:
The good news is it is possible. It all comes down to your business’ operating system.?Here’s a helpful video?that explains what an operating system is, how to create one, and why every business needs one.

1 TOOL:
Part of creating a viable operating system for your business is documenting processes and procedures, something the team at YVA is extremely good at (if I do say so myself…)!
Here’s an article I wrote a while back called “How to use procedures to build a better business”. In this article, I talk about why SOPs are critical and, more importantly, how to go about creating them. I hope?you?find it helpful.
1 QUESTION:
If you were to take 4 weeks off, what would you come back to?
1 ACTION:
Pick one thing you can do this week to move your business from relying on you to run it, to being self-operating and able to run without you being there.
Let's chat about how we can help?you!
