Building a Business Canvas Needs Design and Embroidery Skills

Business Canvases must be well thought, iterative and evolving.

I would suggest dividing a Business Model Canvas into 3 Parts, while developing to a full CONSISTENT STORY (The Embroidery):

Targeting our Audience (WHAT Questions):

  1. What is our (current and potential) Target Audience?
  2. Profiles (Persona)
  3. Customer Journey
  4. Jobs to be Done
  5. Pain Points
  6. (evolving) Requirements & Needs
  7. What are we proposing as a solution (eg.products, services) to fulfill their requirements?
  8. What are the features and competitive advantages of our solution?

Defining how we will reach them and solve their Problems/ add Value for their businesses (HOW Questions):

  1. How will our solution add value to their business? (Value Proposition)
  2. How shall we reach them? (Channels)
  3. How shall we manage our relationships? (Customer Relations)
  4. How and with whom shall we establish Partnerships?
  5. How shall we design, R&D, manufacture, market, sell and supply them? (Key Activities)
  6. How shall we bring together the right Resources (assets, time, material, people, machines, finances, etc.)
  7. How shall we earn money and become profitable?

A well developed Business Canvas would enable us already put together all relevant answers to make a well-thought:

  • cost analysis,
  • revenue analysis: channels, models, projections
  • profitability out of those analyses.

When brought together a Business Model Canvas is a design process of how you will earn money, from whom and how.
