Building A Brand Guide
You may have heard us mention the term "brand guide" before and wonder what exactly that is and why you need one. Let us explain. A brand guide is a document that embodies everything about your brand. It's something that we always make for our clients and recommend that all entrepreneurs do as well. A brand guide will be what helps guide the vision for your brand and bring it to life through visuals and messaging. Here’s what your brand guide should include:
01. Brand Strategy
Your brand strategy should consist of; your brand goals, mission statement, vision, pitch story, tagline, and process. All of these will help your clients know who you are and what you offer. It will also help you align on what problems you are trying to solve for your audience and exactly how you will solve it.
02. Brand Values
Your brand's values are made up of brand words, brand values, and tone. These elements should represent: how your brand feels and what you want your audience to know about you.
Are your products ethically sourced? If so, that should be a part of your brand values. You want to create strong values because this is how your clients will connect with you and will be what forms a strong relationship. We all want to invest in brands that stand for something, so what does yours stand for?

03. Target Audience
Your target audience is an important part of your brand because it will be what defines the type of messaging you will use when trying to make sales. You should have a niche statement that is clear about the type of people you are wanting to attract, their problem, and how you will solve it. For your target audience, you will also want to dive deep into who exactly they are. It's a good idea to have a representation of your highest, medium, and lowest-paying clients. Ask yourself this: how old are they, where do they live, what is their annual income, and what problems are they facing that will lead them to your business? Answering all these questions will be what guides you in the right direction for your messaging and knowing the right words to say to the right people.
04. Visual Branding
Here is when your brand guide gets exciting. Within your visual branding, you will have your brand colors, typography, and logo suite. While this part of a brand guide is where you get the most creative you will still want to make sure you are being strategic about it. Your visual branding is what your audience will recognize you as, so make sure it represents your brand effectively.
Having a brand guide is a great way to be organized and thoughtfully plan out how you want your brand to look, feel, and connect with others. It can be as long and include as much information as you want it. The great thing about a brand guide is that it is personalized to you and your brand. It’s okay if you aren’t sure how to do some parts of your brand guide. We’ll admit, some parts you won’t want to do on your own…but that’s where we come in! We are always here to help you build out your perfect brand guide and bring your vision to life.
