Until a full-blown approach is adopted that includes simultaneously building up community infrastructure and a focus on creating a physical environment that positively influences human behavior, we will not be addressing the root causes; but only the surface of the shootings.

The neighborhoods with high rates of shootings face a mixture of poverty, institutional racism, subpar education, generational trauma, and crime and violence with an overlay of blight, historic under investment, and economic isolation.
