Building a better SOC: How a CFC takes threat management to the next level

Building a better SOC: How a CFC takes threat management to the next level

By Dennis Joshua, Director & Head of Cyber Fusion Center, Americas for Inspira?

Critical infrastructure sectors face more cybersecurity risk than ever before, and a successful cyber-attack can result in severe consequences – everything from operational disruptions to data breaches and even physical damage. And it’s not just significant economic and reputation damage that can result, but also direct threats to the safety and well-being of the public and to the integrity of sensitive data and intellectual property.?

The traditional approach – the Security Operations Center (SOC) – will no longer suffice for today’s expanding threat landscape. Meet the next-generation of threat management – the Cyber Fusion Center (CFC).??

What a CFC provides??

A Cyber Fusion Center is a centralized function that integrates security operations from multiple sources, including security devices, threat intelligence feeds, an incident response program, global intelligence, business units and various internal and external stakeholders. The primary goal of a Cyber Fusion Center is to predict, detect, prevent and respond to cyber threats in a proactive and coordinated manner, using an intelligence-driven analysis and tailored incident response process. ?

It offers:?

  • Increased coverage and confidence of the organization’s entire network, including critical infrastructure and IT systems, enabling better visibility and detection capabilities.??
  • Integrations with existing technologies, including security systems, and the ability to deploy advanced threat detection and response tools, and provide real-time threat intelligence and analysis.??
  • Incident response and crisis management: A CFC doesn’t just help with detection of security incidents; it also can help with the response process. At Inspira, we believe an MSSP’s primarily function is not only to detect but also effectively respond to security incidents. The response process should begin with a preparation phase where every asset, identity and network segment of an organization is fully prepared to handle an effective incident response, should a crisis arise. ?

How a CFC goes beyond the SOC?

Traditionally, in a SOC, there’s a more reactive approach to threats as opposed to a proactive strategy that’s focused on looking for behaviors and identifying patterns and anomalies. Here’s a breakdown of the differences between these two similar but very distinct concepts.??

Addressing complex cybersecurity challenges across the globe requires the power of collaboration leveraging creative minds and innovative and integrated technologies. By placing a high value on trust and demonstrating stewardship, we help customers navigate cyber challenges by providing a resilient approach to cybersecurity, giving them peace of mind.?

We are a trusted cyber defense partner for customers across the globe. One of the key ways we do this is through helping transform from traditional SOC approach to a next-generation Cyber Fusion Center. We’ll dive more deeply into how to implement and use a CFC in a forthcoming blog.?
