Many, by now, know that I address the Builder Class (a.k.a. the Growth Makers), but may not be sure what this class of industry player is about – and is associated with.

The term “builder class” was coined way before I started using it in the context of Contemporary Health Tourism.

Apparently the “term” and “concept and practice” originated in the field of education, where it has been widely adopted and implemented to transform schools into high-performing learning environments.

Today, in addition to education, the same “term” and “concept and practice” can be applied in a variety of settings, including business, government and non-profit organizations.

The associated principles can be adopted and implemented by any “organization” that seeks to create a culture of:

  • excellence
  • innovation
  • growth
  • continuous improvement
  • high performance

In the context of Contemporary Health Tourism, I regard “buildership” as the “only credible” approach to leadership (which is the reason that I do not regard “leadership” synonymous with “buildership” – and the only leaders I respect are those who “build”).

Leaders become Builders (Buildership Leaders) by adopting a buildership approach to transform their organizations into high-performing, innovative, and resilient entities that achieve sustainable success.

“buildership” empowers individuals and teams to create positive change and achieve their full potential.

Stated a little differently, “buildership” is the leadership approach that emphasizes the creation of positive and productive change in organizations and economic ecosystems – by drawing upon the principles of entrepreneurship and innovation to empower individuals and teams to achieve their full potential.

I associate “buildership” with:

  • clear and compelling vision (buildership leaders have and articulate a clear and compelling vision for the future, providing a shared goal that inspires and motivates everyone involved)
  • focused improvement (buildership leaders continuously identify and address opportunities for performance improvement, fostering a culture of experimentation, learning, and growth)
