Builders Build ??
Over the last couple of weeks we've seen Collide approach 2,000 users and 10x growth in weekly active users.
This is pretty cool to see given the MVP of Collide has been live for over a year and the user experience of the current app is less than stellar (we're about to drop the new app this month!)
But this reminds me that building a startup is just a science experiment.
You develop a hypothesis and then run a series of experiments to test it.
The problem I think a lot of people run into is that they try to be perfect in the experiments when in reality you just need to get to the market and get feedback and data to see if the hypothesis is valid in the first place.
For us, we wanted to get Collide to market, even if it wasn't an app that we were proud of. This is especially tough to swallow considering the bar for social apps is high with Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. These are the best consumer apps in the world and people expect the user experience to be on par—Collide MVP definitely wasn't lol.
But what getting a product out in the market allowed us to do was get feedback from people and explore what the future of the app could be. This was invaluable and allowed us to take the next step of dedicating more capital and resources to building a better app.
And as we continue to move forward, the science experiment doesn't end. We'll continue to test things and operate within tight feedback loops so that ultimately we build a product that is extremely valuable for the industry.
I guess my purpose in writing this is to encourage you to just ship that project you're working on.
You can ask anyone on my team, I've been extremely frustrated, embarrassed, and impatient with the process. That's part of it. You just have to chew glass sometimes and focus on shipping, even if the product isn't where you envision it in your head.
Go build! ??

7 个月It’s surely a science experiment but the fact that the purpose of the app is clearly laid out makes a huge difference. You nailed it

7 个月Great article! Reminds me of Naval’s quote “10,000 iterations, not 10,000 hours.” Also reminds me of the book Go for No…if we aren’t getting no’s, we aren’t experimenting and shipping our work enough.
