Build Yourself A Staircase...

When I was working a corporate gig I wanted something that I thought would give me something that I didn’t have. I wanted more money. That I thought would give me freedom. So when a softball mom approached me with an offer to join an MLM opportunity that aligned with my values and promised to provide some extra income, I considered it, felt the vibe coming from it and signed up! I knew it would be good.

I was genuinely successful at the MLM for the year or so that I did it. I loved changing the lives of the women that I impacted. I loved helping men buy gifts for their ladies. And I liked getting out of the house evenings and weekends. But I didn’t stick with it. I was given a promotion at work that at the time seemed like a huge opportunity and I chose to throw myself into that company more than my MLM.

In hindsight, I chose wrong. I chose to build someone else’s dream, and I really lost my freedom. My health suffered, my marriage failed, and eventually the corporation changed. They lost any guise of loyalty that remained with retired senior executives. Had I chosen to give my extra time to MYSELF (my MLM) I would have built up residual and passive income streams that would have provided income to this day. Right now, direct sales is a 39.4 Billion dollar industry.

Wondering why you are hit up by everyone you know to buy this or that or the other? Because it’s successful. The products are tested. Likely higher quality than the stuff in the stores. There aren’t celebrity endorsements. And people really do want to support their friends and family who are in the sales positions selling them.

I learned sooo much when I was in direct sales/multi-level marketing about teamwork, mindset, belief work, and self-development. I loved every bit of the experience. Don’t put your ladder against the wrong building like I did. In fact, don’t put your ladder against any one building, I recommend building a staircase that you can climb on for yourself that leads anywhere you want it to.
