The 3rd step in the Get PR Famous Formula is to Find the RIGHT journalist. These journalists are the ones who cover your specific industry or niche.
In that regard, I am a huge proponent of building a customized media list of 5, 10, 20 journalists whom you regularly pitch to, stay in touch with, and provide value. This is how you build relationships and become welcomed into their tribe.
The easiest way to find these journalists is a simple Google search, "Who writes about [industry] for [publication]?" Remember, Google is a question search engine so it's full of great information when asked in the form of a question. You will often get all of their contact information in these searches.
If you get their name but no email, one resource I use often is Rocket Reach. This mines LinkedIn for people you aren't connected with and provides the contact information they have on their profile.
PRO TIP - only use Rocket Reach if the person is active on LinkedIn. If not, it could be old information.

You can also use Voila Norbert to find anyone's email address. These are all free resources to help you find the contact information of the right journalist.
Do your homework first to see who your ideal journalists are and then start a spreadsheet to keep track of their information. Remember to regularly pitch this core group so you stay front of mind.

2 年Christina Daves yes a media list is important and even better to know the editorial schedule of the publication in addition. Even after having a list many business owners have trouble writing a release to pique the interest of journalist and their publication. How do people overcome this?
