BOTW: A Fierce Little Firearm

The B&T USA Grasshopper Mouse 9 (GHM9) is named after the Grasshopper mouse, a small rodent native to North America known for taking on larger prey and even using scorpion venom as a painkiller. The choice of name was no accident. B&T USA CEO Tim Nickler was keenly aware of the competition from the CZ Scorpion, and he wanted to name the GHM9 after a small predator that could outperform its larger rivals. This pistol caliber carbine, like its namesake, is a force to be reckoned with. Equipped with the Blade 1x25 prism, a Modlite OKW-18350, and a GSL Technology INC. 9mm can, it's finely tuned for CQB scenarios. Dive into the breakdown and find out why we love this build so much.

Weapon mounted light (WML): Modlite Systems OKW 18350 Light Package

Note that a separate mount is needed, allowing users to select the mount that best fits their requirements. The light is made in the USA, comes with a lifetime guarantee, and is tested to withstand a select fire SCAR 17’s recoil.

Modlite ModButton Lite

The Modlite ModButton Lite is a compact, lightweight switch that provides momentary activation for your weapon light. The switch is injection-molded plastic, fully potted to provide an extra degree of protection in rough conditions. This switch is backwardly compatible with all SureFire, Arisaka and Modlite Scout bodies, as well as Surefire UE and DS00 tail caps.

WML Accessories: Arisaka Offset Scout Mount

The Arisaka Offset Scout Mount is a low-profile solution that tucks your light in closer to the handguard. This mount is compatible with a wide range of weapon lights, including the Modlite PLH, PLHv2, and OKW. When used on the side mounting surfaces of Picatinny handguards, the Offset Scout Mount places the light at a 45-degree angle and tucks it in closer to the rail system. Why we like it:

The GHM9 really grabbed our attention after watching the reviews by Garand Thumb and 1911 Syndicate. Their reviews are very comprehensive and had great detailed comparisons between the B&T and similar platforms. The first feature that stood out to us was the ergonomic and ambidextrous controls making it super easy to pick up and have no issues manipulating the firearm. After we got the GHM9 outfitted with attachments, it was strait to the range where we really fell in love with it. When Garand Thumb said “The GHM9 is to date the lightest recoiling blowback operated weapon that I’ve used.” he wasn’t kidding. It is too easy to rip rounds down range and stay on target. As for the Attachments, the suppressor did a great job at keeping the GHM9 quite and lowing the rise of the gun plus with the tri-lug adapter, you can get the can on and off very fast. The QD muzzle device paired with the folding stock made it easy to store in a backpack for quick deployment. Modlite killed it with the size and performance of the light head which made it super easy to throw light into any dark areas at any distance. Arisaka hasn’t failed us yet so their light mount was an easy choice. Finally, the cherry on top. The Blade. We went with the Blade for a few reasons, first being the sight picture though the optic. The etched Bullet Rise Compensating (BRC) reticle paired with the rear diopter gives the user a constantly clear and sharp sight picture. We went with a prism instead of a standard dot because when you activate the light, it would wash out the dot but with the Blade, it doesn’t happen thanks to the etched reticle. Overall, this build is very useful as a backpack or bedside gun with these attachments but one thing is for sure, it’s a blast to shoot.
