Recruitment corner
This week, I returned after a few months in the UK. Think sun, beaches and surfing – in the rain!
Despite the underwhelming weather, I’m rested and raring to go. And ready to give you an update on the recruitment market.
In a nutshell: it’s still strong. But there are fewer vacancies than a year ago.
Does that mean a shortage of jobs and an oversupply of candidates? No.
Employers may have a few more candidates in front of them these days, but they aren't guaranteed to be sat opposite that 'gun', 'unicorn' or 'superstar' in every interview – because an increase in candidates coming into the market doesn't necessarily translate into an increase in candidate quality.
Because here's the thing:
Only 30-40% of workers are considered ‘top performers’. And they have strong relationships with their managers, and are given more opportunities for career growth and higher pay. Why would they leave their jobs?
You might want these candidates, but unless you’ve got the right recruiter actively seeking them out on your behalf, you probably won’t find them.
Here’s a little more food for thought: It's important to understand your position in the market. Specifically:
Give me a call if you want to work out those details!
