There are two questions I often ask leaders when I work with them:

1. Have you set your vision too low?
2. Are you thinking big enough?

These are questions well worth reflecting on, because what I know for sure is that when we lift our gaze, even just a little, and sharpen the focus and clarity we have around our vision, things that previously felt insurmountable tend to fall away.?

There’s a lot of talk about growth and scale, which is fed by a belief that the potential for growth is limitless and an assumption that bigger is always better.??

When I ask you to reflect on whether you’re thinking big enough, or suggest you lift your gaze, I’m motivated from a different place.??

While there are benefits to scale, it isn’t always the answer. Sometimes grassroots or super-targeted approaches are a better way to achieve your goals.

There’s not one "right" answer or approach.??

This is where learning to embrace my mantra, “Think like a system. Act like an entrepreneur” comes in handy.

When you "think like a system" you're able to zoom out to think bigger, get perspective, better understand the relationships between things, see connections and spot patterns.

When you "act like an entrepreneur" it encourages you to take that new insight and use it to your advantage by letting it shape how you act in the particulars of your context.

To truly expand your business’ horizons, you must challenge your current vision. An expansive approach and a curious mind will help you spot potential and opportunity in new ways that may have been right in front of you all along.?

A sharper focus on your vision will give you an edge because it will tune you in to the factors that play a part in contributing to that vision. That means you’ll spot risks earlier allowing you time to mitigate them sooner.???

I want you to stop for a moment and ask yourself:??

?? What strategies will help me think and act beyond my current limits??
