I want to celebrate my newest connections who grind extra to publish content that resonates, striking readers as educational, encouraging, and insightful when considering their backgrounds and the experiences they regularly share.
Where will you find their stories to glean from executives who "made it" and are willing to share the lessons in hopes of accelerating growth for those around them?
Why do I follow them?
?? They shine with servant-leader hearts. How do I know?
Let me share a story with you that happened back in January 2024, after the chaos of the holidays halted and my future plans to draft content marketing schedules and build partnerships began to shift.
Once upon a time, in the bustling realm of LinkedIn, over 100 leading communication artists gathered for an unprecedented collaboration. Their mission was grand: to create content that not only educated professionals across various industries but also engaged and inspired them to achieve more. These artists, recognized as the Top Voices, were a diverse group of individuals renowned for their expertise and influential presence on the platform. They were writers, speakers, marketers, sales experts, and industry leaders, each with a unique story to tell and a wealth of knowledge to share. Each of these professionals earned an invite, and the weight of the honor bestowed was received differently by each on what actions they would take next to enhance the LinkedIn platform for not only their audience but also the 1 billion other users!
Despite their acclaim, the Top Voices were not perfect. They knew they weren't the only ones deserving of being heard, but they had been chosen to lead conversations and beta-test new applications on LinkedIn. They understood their role as trailblazers, paving the way for others to follow and ensuring that the platform continued to evolve and meet the needs of its users. As servant-hearted business executives and founders, they chose to carry the weight of reviewing LinkedIn's opportunities to grow the platform, whether it included hosting LinkedIn Lives, testing the laughing face feature, creating newsletters for company pages, or posting videos for the newest "Reels" feature.
Pro bono.
As they came together, their first goal was to produce collaborations that spanned numerous industries, from technology and finance to healthcare and education. They set group meetings, created segmented chats, and began studying one another as they could, juggling this new set of connections with their business-as-usual activities. You may see their Blue Badge on their profiles, posting interviews, sharing the Creator Content, expounding on the Trending LinkedIn posts shared weekly, and so much more. Some creators within this team of professionals had an edge with experience on LinkedIn over a decade leveraging building a professional presence while others grabbed the reigns quickly to ride alongside and continue enhancing the platform with them.
What impresses me most is their authenticity and vulnerability in building rapport with an established audience of professionals like them. They shared insights on the latest trends, best practices, and innovations, making complex topics accessible to all. Their articles and posts were not just informative but also engaging, using storytelling to captivate their audience and drive home important messages.
For example, meet Colin Levy , a dedicated legal tech advocate who shares his extensive experience to empower others. As the author of "The Legal Tech Ecosystem" and other influential works, Colin combines his passion for innovation with his commitment to serving the legal community. He advises startups, writes insightful articles, and speaks at numerous events, all while maintaining a hands-on role as Director of Legal and Evangelist at Malbek. His mission is to inspire and guide professionals at the intersection of law and technology, helping them navigate and thrive in the evolving legal tech landscape.
In my findings, Top Voices aimed to inspire others. They shared personal anecdotes of their own journeys, the challenges they faced, and the lessons they learned along the way. These stories resonated with professionals at all stages of their careers, offering motivation and encouragement to persevere and strive for success. Many are involved in philanthropic missions they promote, encouraging business executives to not only have a growth mindset in building but also a mission mindset in giving.
Check out Bryan Clagett , who supports The Peninsula Fine Arts Center and the Board of the Center For Children & Family Services. Krista Mollion regularly publishes helpful content with a mission, including her 3x3 challenge that raised funds for the MS Society. Dr. Isil Berkun , a seasoned AI developer, sends her guidance sharing Wisdom: Teaching at LinkedIn Learning and Portland State University with intentions to "spark curiosity and empower others to discover their potential."
Top Voices contribute to the LinkedIn platform, sharing their experiences and fostering dialogue. These leaders also participate in beta tests for new LinkedIn features, ensuring the platform remains a powerful tool for professional networking and growth and providing valuable feedback to LinkedIn's development team. These cheerleaders play a crucial role in enhancing the LinkedIn experience, making it a richer, more informative environment for all users
Through their collective efforts, the original Top Voices created a vibrant, dynamic community on LinkedIn. Not all of them continued participating, and that could be for a myriad of reasons, but those who stayed par for the course fostered discussions that went beyond mere business transactions, delving into the human side of professional life. Whether it was growing leads that converted into business growth, attracting new hires, or sharing the ups and downs of the adulting journey, the Top Voices made sure that LinkedIn was a place where professionals could connect, learn, and be inspired.
Their legacy was one of collaboration, innovation, and empowerment. They showed that by coming together and sharing their knowledge and experiences, they could make a significant impact on the professional world. And in doing so, they not only enhanced LinkedIn but also set a powerful example for others to follow.
So, this afternoon, I want to give you 3 examples to meet tomorrow during their events, engage with their content, and glean from as you persevere in your professional journey.
From there, I want to open the door for others to share their events, books, and collateral that earned them the opportunity to go "on stage" in front of millions of users, using their "Voice" to build LinkedIn for them.
