Budgeting for Video: After the Video Shoot

If you’re still developing your marketing budget for 2021, you’ll want to consider investing in video. But you might be wondering…
How much will I need to invest?
As noted in our previous post, with the pre-production and video shoot phases completed, the cost for one video can now be up to $3000.
Post-Production/Editing
Then there are the post-production costs, mostly editing the video. Video editors may charge $50.00 per hour or even up to $400 per day. If that editor only cuts the video together, you might have to pay for another editor to fix the coloring, another for the sound and another for the graphics.
Editing can take quite a bit of time. Your post-production costs could add another $1500 - $2000 or more to your bill, which is now up to $5000 for one video. If you need to use commercial actors, they might charge $400 per day plus residuals. You also need to pay their agencies. Hair and make-up people will need to be paid, too.
It’s easy to see where they arrive at the $5000 project minimum.
This is all for a smaller production. Larger productions will have bigger crews to pay and costs to add.
Also included in the tab can be the videography firm’s business costs for things such as office space, administrative staff, insurance and so forth…
Faith, Hope and Love…
Don’t let this simple cost analysis deter you from investing in video. It’s just meant to get you thinking about the worth of high-quality video services. A well-crafted, story-driven video can retain its value for years and convert sales well above your investment.
Take comfort in knowing that many of your local video service companies can wear many different hats to streamline the production process, keep your costs down and charge you MUCH LESS than the common scenario described above. Still, you’ll get the same benefit and value of the larger production.
Take time to get to know a local videographer with whom you can build trust. These smaller video service companies will put a lot of TLC, heart and soul into your project, and help your story flow…
