What is Budget Day?

Budget Day, or Prinsjesdag in Dutch, is a Dutch tradition that takes place on the third Tuesday of September annually. On this day, the king officially starts the national government's new working year. The most visible part of Budget Day is the speech from the Throne. In this speech, the king details the government's plans for the coming year, 2025. These plans concern, for example, the economy, healthcare, education, and security in the Netherlands. While the king reads the speech, the actual plans are made by his ministers.?

After the speech from the Throne, the Annual Budget is presented to the public. This important document states how much money the government expects to collect and spend in 2025. It also states how this money will be divided among various issues, such as healthcare, infrastructure, and education. In addition, the State Budget is presented, explaining exactly how much money each ministry will receive and how they plan to spend it.?
