The integration of the Ayush system into the National Health ecosystem received a significant push in Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's Budget 2023-24, which was delivered on Wednesday.
The entire budget for the Ayush Ministry has been enhanced by 20% to Rs 3,647 crore. The budget also emphasises the need of encouraging evidence-based research in Ayush systems via Ayush research councils.
"The funding for the centrally supported National Ayush Mission (NAM) has been increased by 50%, from Rs 800 crore to Rs 1200 crore. The NAM is primarily concerned with providing cost-effective Ayush services with universal access by upgrading Ayush Hospitals and Dispensaries, providing comprehensive primary health care by upgrading health care facilities such as Health & Wellness Centers (HWC), and co-locating Ayush facilities at PHCs, CHCs, and DHs "said Ayush Ministry in a statement.
The NAM also promotes the cultivation of medicinal plants, the manufacturing of high-quality, standardised ingredients for Ayush supply, the incorporation of medicinal plants into farming systems, and the expansion of exports of value-added medicinal plant products. According to the ministry, grants-in-aid have increased across all states (Rs 920 crore), union territories (Rs 96 crore), and northeastern areas (Rs 231 crore) from Rs 861.97 crore to Rs 1,246.73 crore.
According to the ministry: "The budget takes into account the strength of the traditional Indian medical system. Other Ayush systems, like #ayurveda, #homoeopathy, #unani, #siddha, #naturopathy, and Sowa rigpa, must be promoted via improved education and community outreach."
At Kairali, we are committed to promoting the benefits of a holistic and natural lifestyle. As the Hon'ble Prime Minister's initiative to popularize Millets gathers momentum, we are thrilled to see the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman's recognition of the importance of these age-old grains in the recently announced Budget. With the inclusion of Millets such as Jowar, Ragi, Bajra, Kuttu, Ramdana, Kangni, Kutki, Kodo, Cheena, and Sama, the Budget has taken a significant step towards promoting healthy and sustainable food options for all.

At Kairali, we have always advocated the use of these nutrient-dense grains in our Ayurvedic treatments and wellness programs. With the support of the government, we hope to see a wider acceptance and appreciation of these grains, which have the potential to improve the health and well-being of people, while also providing a source of livelihood for farmers.
We applaud the Finance Minister's efforts to promote a sustainable and healthy future and are committed to supporting the government's initiative in every way possible.
