The Budding Oncologist’s Dilemma – AI, Outreach, and the Great Medical Flood

Title: The Budding Oncologist’s Dilemma – AI, Outreach, and the Great Medical Flood

From the desk of Dr. Suresh, Senior Oncologist

While the world is buzzing about income tax slabs post-Budget 2025, let me take a moment to reflect on what truly matters—the ever-evolving chaos in oncology.

On one side, we have an explosion of AI models, each claiming to ‘empower’ but instead flooding us with more options for the same disease, making treatment choices more confusing than a wedding buffet with too many dishes. And let’s not forget, every new AI algorithm needs a validation study, which means that by the time we settle on the ‘best’ model, a newer, shinier one will pop up, making the last one obsolete.

On the other side, the government has declared "ease of chemo" to ensure treatment reaches more cancer patients—a noble initiative, no doubt. But let’s be real—delivering chemotherapy isn’t like opening a Swiggy kitchen. Infrastructure, trained manpower, and safety protocols matter, yet we’re being sold a dream where chemo flows as freely as roadside chai.

Meanwhile, young oncologists contemplating a career in smaller cities face a harsh reality—while cancer care may reach there, will their quality of life and professional growth follow suit? Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities are great, but will they offer the same interdisciplinary collaboration, research opportunities, and technological advancements? That's the real question.

And finally, the cherry on the cake—or rather, the last straw on the camel’s back—the rapid multiplication of medical seats and colleges. At this rate, we might soon see MBBS seats available at a discount during Diwali sales. Competition will be fierce, and where young doctors will eventually land—well, only God knows!

So, while others argue over tax slabs, I sit here wondering—should I train the next generation of oncologists for precision medicine or just prepare them for survival in an overcrowded medical jungle?

Fun line to wrap it up: If AI doesn’t take over our jobs, the tsunami of incoming doctors surely will! ??????????

Sir, your observations about the challenges that new oncologists encounter today are both insightful and essential. As we adapt to the swift progress in AI and the intense competition in the field, it is crucial to focus on training that harmonises innovation with critical thinking and a patient-centered approach. The future of oncology relies not only on emerging technologies but also on developing resilient and capable oncologists who can effectively navigate this changing environment.
