The Buck Snort Saloon, Learning and Living Patience, Slowing Down
Little patience, mm yeah, mm yeah
Need a little patience, yeah
Just a little patience, yeah
Some more patience, yeah (I've been walking the streets at night)
Just trying to get it right (A little patience, yeah)
It's hard to see with so many around
You know I don't like being stuck in the crowd (Could use some patience, yeah)
And the streets don't change but maybe the names
I ain't got time for the game 'cause I need you (Gotta have more patience, yeah)
Yeah, yeah, yeah but I need you (All need more patience)
Oh, I need you (All need some patience)
Oh, I need you (Just a little patience)
Ooh this time (Is all you need)

Good morning, I hope your three-day weekend served you well. I hope you made memories you will keep for your lifetime, we did, it’s always our intent to live life at eleven. We had some friends in from Indiana, that’s the norm anymore, guests for a night or two, just hanging out on the deck, listening to music, eating, drinking, and laughing.
We headed to the Buck Snort Saloon yesterday, this iconic bar is very hard to find, it’s about 30 minutes from our home, but it’s the kind of place that has thousands of $1.00 bills pasted to the walls and ceilings. It’s been there since time began, they serve cold drinks and great brisket.
I’m sitting in a six-foot purple bean bag chair in front of a fireplace; the sunrise is over my right shoulder. Writing as the sun comes up usually equals a quality day, I have my schedule, but I wonder what kind of awesome we might find during our travels. The view from where I sit is stunning like my Queen.
I did a quick scan of the news this morning, the hurricane is stalled, which I think is good, but the media are asking it to move, I don’t understand their motives anymore, the old story about the fireman saving the cat in the tree would now be headlined “The Inner Workings of Socialism”.
But I still like to check out their take on the world, I get balanced reporting by using different sources, but the right-leaning source had a story on society’s loss of patience. I generally agree with this idea, people live in an “I want it now, and I don’t want to pay for shipping” world.
Gone are the days of working hard, coming home, and preparing a meal with your family. Now, the family arrives, heads to the local dinner an in a matter of minutes has their food. The slow process of prepping, cooking, eating, and cleaning up has been lost. If you want to teach your children patience, plan a meal or two at home, give each child a job and dine as a family. Once done, everyone should chip in and clean up; it can be one of the best hours of the day. If you are a sports family, use a crock or instant pot to precook all your healthy meals.
I see this lack of patience in the airport; I travel weekly, I get to see the best and worse of humanity. When a flight get’s canceled or delayed, there is always a person or two that is far more important than the rest of us, they scream, yell, threaten a lawsuit and make an ass of themselves. When things happen outside of your control, enjoy the ebb, it keeps life interesting.
We’ve been doing a daily meditation now for a couple of weeks; I think this has shown me patience. My mind never stops, forcing it to slow down, to be aware, to be present has been a gift. Being self-aware and mindful is a gift we all have, but few of us ever bother to dial it up. If you find yourself losing patience, you might want to try a little meditation.
One of my common sayings is “if you are in a hurry, you are doing it wrong.” This applies to many areas of life but taking time to plan and make sure you are never late is a skill most folks never master. It’s not hard, get up a little earlier than necessary, have a morning routine that allows you to accomplish your tasks, plan your day, don’t rush.
Traffic will be slow; there will be a train if you live in Muncie, Indiana. Something might get in your way of hitting your appointment so always have a 20 to 30-minute pad if possible. Not rushing from one thing to another allows you to enjoy the present.
Life is not that difficult if you slow down, plan, and execute your plan. Life is never perfect, but you can plan for this imperfection through organization and proper scheduling. Take a moment and look at your calendar today, did you allow enough time for travel between appointments? Did you include traffic slowdowns, those pesky trains, or maybe that ill-timed traffic stop?
My Queen is getting up; I can hear her moving around, soon she will come downstairs say “morning lover” and give me what I call sugar, some might call a morning kiss. It’s how we start 95% of all days, it’s our routine, and it serves us well.
I hope you are a patient person. I hope you are organized and can plan your day and eliminate the stress that others put on themselves. You have 24 hours in a day, that’s plenty of time to get all your work and activities in and spend some time relaxing being present. You can do anything you set your mind to do if you can dream it, you can do it. If you are in a hurry you are doing something wrong, slow down and enjoy every breath you take and every move you make.
