No BS Career Advice: Getting Ready for a Recession

No BS Career Advice: Getting Ready for a Recession

People hire me to provide No BS Career Advice. That can be with a job search, hiring more effectively, management, leadership, career transitions, as well as dealing with workplace issues.

With the US economy having become complicated, I thought I would devote this issue of No BS Career Advice to recession-proofing your career and your job. After all, the music is slowing down and if you are in an OK job or out of work aggressively job hunting, it is important to find a seat NOW before the music stops. Calendar year companies are finalizing budgets. How many do you think will be expanding hiring next year?

Analytics-focused tech sector firms have already begun layoffs and freezing hiring. Not startups (although many did so months ago). Firms in crypto, Meta, Google, Apple, Netflix, Amazon have all put the brakes on and/or slowed already.

My recommendations are not complete but are a good start for many of you with getting yourself in gear NOW while you can.

If you would like to speak with me because you want help with a job search (including critiquing your resume, interviewing well, negotiating, improving your LinkedIn presence, references or because you have a question, you can schedule a session with me using this link:

Message me through LinkedIn if you would like advice about the best option for you.

Recessions can be scary. They often lead to widespread job losses and a sense of insecurity, even for professionals who are usually less affected by such downturns. A recession means that there are fewer jobs than usual, and people have less money to spend. If you’re worried about your career during this time, know that this is also a great opportunity for you to see how you can make your career recession-proof or at least increase its resistance to any economic downturns. Read these tips on how you can make your career recession-proof and safe from future recessions.

If you are concerned about layoffs, my paperback book may help you avoid being caught in one and get you in gear if you are.

If we are not already connected on LinkedIn, send a connection request to me. My network tends to be larger than many of yours. After all, I was member 7653 on LinkedIn.
