Bryson Shanklin , a member of the partnerships team for the popular job site TeamWork Online Online, joined the Constant Sports podcast. Bryson's main goal is to help others break into the sports industry, and he enjoys providing those individuals with guidance along the way.
Before finding his way with Teamwork Online, Bryson attended undergraduate school at 美国杨百翰大学 where he worked for the football team as a Player Experience Manager for three years. For his last year of school, he transferred to 美国北卡罗莱纳州立大学 and gained more industry experience by working as a Game Day Operations Coordinator for the North Carolina Courage of the @NWSL. During this time, he decided to start making content on LinkedIn to make himself stand out. In one post, Bryson was talking about Teamwork Online and tagged the company. Davis Filippell, the President of Teamwork Online, interacted with the post and got connected with Bryson. A few months later, Davis was in the Charlotte area and invited Bryson to coffee, and the rest is history.
After discussing the story of how Bryson got his job, he and Conner transitioned to tips that Bryson can offer to others throughout the job application process. Bryson suggests including data in your resume as well as tailoring your cover letter to fit the exact role that you're applying for. It's also important to focus on attention to detail, making others happy, and always trying to have a smile on your face.
When networking, Bryson suggests that those who are reaching out about informational interviews should keep it brief. Mention why you're reaching out, share any common ground you may have, and then make the ask you're looking for. Bryson believes that knowing what you don't like is just as important as knowing what you do like, so it's crucial that those attempting to break into the industry connect with as many individuals as possible and try any experience that becomes available; you never know what it can lead to.

EMERGING TOPICS IN THE SPORTS INDUSTRY
Reggie Bush Filing Lawsuit Against NCAA
The controversy surrounding Reggie Bush from 2005 is still an ongoing topic nearly 20 years later. We've recently seen a shift in college athletics due to NIL legislation. Reggie Bush is now filing a lawsuit accusing the NCAA of defamation as he attempts to reinstate his 2005 Heisman trophy. Bush gave up the trophy in 2010 after an NCAA investigation found that he received multiple payments of thousands of dollars and a vehicle. Through this investigation, the NCAA claimed that Bush engaged in 'pay-to-play' during his Heisman-winning season, and this was the reason he was instructed to vacate the trophy. Bush's lawyer states, “The lawsuit is based on the NCAA maliciously attacking his character through a completely false and highly offensive statement that was widely reported in the media and substantially and irreparably damaged his reputation.” Now that athletes are able to benefit from name, image, and likeness, Bush and his lawyer believe the NCAA unjustly punished him for benefits that he received nearly twenty years ago.
Discussions Heating Up Around Stanford and Cal Joining ACC
Stanford and Cal have the educational prowess to escape the dying Pac 12, but for a while, it looked like they might not be able to. New reports this week have suggested that conversations involving the two schools joining the Atlantic Coast Conference have been heating up, but it won't come without a cost. The two schools would likely have to agree to take a lower share of the conference's revenue share in order to get all other school presidents on board. While it may not be ideal, Stanford and Cal would likely have to agree to a proposed reduced revenue model, as the ACC gives them their best chance to compete adequately in their Olympic sports. Joining the Mountain West or another group of five conferences would not provide this adequate competition, and it appears Olympic sports and educational success are the two main things keeping the athletic departments of Cal and Stanford afloat.
