Essential Care Partners - Essential members of our team

Evidence shows that formally including caregivers as part of the care team improves health outcomes for patients and also benefits care providers. The Ontario Caregiver Organization, in partnership with Ontario Health, launched the Essential Care Partner Support Hub to help healthcare organizations formally identify, include, and support caregivers as essential care partners – even during times of pressure.

Since the program was implemented at Bruyère, 2,784 ECPs have joined.

First-of-its-kind network supports faster adoption of technology in long-term care

Today, the CAN Health Network , a leading national initiative focused on accelerating Canadian innovation in health care, announced the launch of its Long-Term Care Innovation and Scaling Network. This new network, powered by Bruyère, is designed to enhance the quality of life for long-term care (LTC) residents and operators, by introducing innovative, Canadian-made technology solutions to address LTC’s most pressing challenges.

Ottawa scientist behind recommendations for the use of non-invasive brain stimulation in stroke rehabilitation

Can non-invasive brain stimulation improve stroke recovery? Bruyère researcher Jodi Edwards, PhD is studying how transcranial magnetic stimulation might help stroke patients in their rehabilitation journey. As one of the largest providers of stroke rehabilitation in the region, Bruyère is engaged as one of the sites in a national clinical trial called CanStim.

“Rehab is excellent, but to make the changes in the brain you would have to do thousands of repetitions a day,” Edwards said. The non-invasive brain stimulation, she added, prepares the brain to get the most out of rehabilitation.
