Hey, FAM!
?? Drink talk
Having kids is a blessing. Especially when they get sick, your whole family gets sick. But wait, I was sick two weeks ago. How is this possible? The sickness wasn’t getting any better, so I was thinking, what the fuck? Then I couldn’t smell anything, and it hit me. Hello, my old Covid friend. We are meeting again. The third time is the charm, right? At least this year, you won’t ruin my Gamescom like you did last year!
??Tip of the week
Localization doesn’t move the needle. It can help you improve numbers by 10-20% on the CPI side and conversion rate. But don’t expect more. As we understood from our KR visit, it makes a lot of sense in Asia (No shit, Sherlock!) Yeah, I know, what a revelation. So how should you go about the localization of your creatives and game?
Look at your top 10 countries in terms of revenue. Look at your resources and money. Then add the 10% “uplift” on the revenue side and try to calculate the costs vs potential gain. Calculated profit? Good.
Do you have a very strong community in France, and your game is text heavy? In this case, you could maybe add a 20% “uplift” to the equation.
It’s actually simple as that. Don’t put too much effort into localizing the game. If it’s not hitting the goals, localization won’t help you too much.
?? Dr. Doom is not amused
One of my industry friends amused me with his direct and honest TL;DRs, so we agreed to share it here too! My friend remains anonymous as Dr.Doom!
"The year is 2023, and it seems technology again is not there at Blizzard (as it was with more deck slots with Hearthstone), where more stash tabs in your Diablo4 stash would fry your PC. The game is programmed to literally load all the items of all the players you encounter, even in their town stashes. Then you ask yourself which alien technology is being used by that "other" ARPG on the market, where they sell stash tabs, and you can have hundreds of them. Inconceivable!"?Sincerely, Doom (https://www.pcgamer.com/your-diablo-4-stash-is-tiny-because-a-bigger-one-would-fry-your-pc-this-isnt-a-storage-concern-its-a-performance-concern/)

Today was a good day.
Hey, look. I have to be honest with you. I was expecting you to be way more proactive and guide us through these tough times. I can understand you are busy, but since the beginning, I can't see enough effort from your side. I believe we can boost this game with a great UA strategy and execution. I really want to know the reason behind it. If we are to continue working together, we should fix the issues, and you should put more value and effort in our game to give it a success. We want to be more aggressive on UA spending.
Hey, understand your worry and frustration here. I am actually not that busy, it’s very unfortunate timing, though. I was sick and now I am out traveling which I had planned for some time.
Communication could be better, totally agree there. In terms of analyzing. There is not that much to analyze given the budget we are spending that much still. We can get there sure.
If you want to end the cooperation now, I would totally understand that.

Hey, let's set up a call and go over things.?I?would say let's move forward, especially in August, by solving the problems I mentioned above and taking a more active role in this collaboration
Oh hey, thanks a lot for your message. It surprised me since your investor already mentioned to me you don’t want to continue working together.
I told him about the problems and was planning to stop the cooperation actually, then since you approached with understanding and accepting problems, I wanted to give it another chance
Today was a good day.

1 年I heard of post event sickness but not preparation sickness. You always teach us something new! Also, Jakub is entirely right. It has become annoying to a point it’s worth using that phrase as spam filter. See you in Cologne!
