Broker Essentials Year in Review

The end of this year was harder to pick than the Powerball numbers!?

As I reflect on the year that was, I think back to January when Omicron was spreading in Victoria (nothing new here) and I was fearing another year of lockdowns, only to find out the only thing that was going down was property prices, and up was % rates, inflation, the cost of lettuce (who still buys iceberg), fuel, our expectations of the Socceroos and broker market share (now 71% ish).?

What else went up, well we did, travel was back on and both for business and personal. For many of us, we tip-toed back into travel, and just like many areas in our lives our expectations of service went up but delivery from the airlines went down, and?we found out we had forgotten 'how to! We forgot how to pack, how to get through security, and how not to get sun burnt on day one! We had to get travel fit, we had to get back into habits that we had stopped doing.?

This will be a theme that you will need to remember well in 2023.

As the year draws to a close and we see another interest rate rise, we need to be thinking very hard about what the future of our industry is. No, not just for the next year or the next cycle, but in 5-10 years’ time. Just what do you do, what is your value proposition and what do your clients want from you? And finally, we are moving from managing our capacity (too busy) to an activity focus in 2023. So, what activities are you going to have to focus on next year as the markets change? Will it be back book management, sales, referrals partners, conversion, or something else?

So what else changed for you this year?

I know that I continue to?take steps to change what I can control, to design the life that I want, one that focuses on family, friends, health, well-being, and delivering value to my clients & the wider industry that I serve. But to get to your destination you have to take stock of your journey to date.?So, take some time over the holiday period and ask yourself:

  • What's your blind spot??
  • What long-held assumptions leave you potentially vulnerable?
  • What’s working but you just don’t do enough of it?
  • What do you have to stop doing?
  • And what do you need to create in 2023?
  • What would you do if you were brave or braver?

So, let's take a look back at 2022...

For us, it was another year that we, just like you, continued to break records, and for all the right reasons.?

For the clients and the market that we service, we delivered:?

  • Over 180 hours of one on one coaching?
  • Presented over 40 1.5hr live content sessions with brokers via the Revolution group
  • Conducted 50 weekly Q&A sessions?
  • Continued to add to our library?of material for our clients
  • Spoke to more than 10,000 brokers via keynotes, workshops, and training sessions with aggregators
  • Had 25 clients finish in the MPA Top 100 list?
  • 7 clients won ABA awards
  • 5 clients won AMA awards?
  • 10 clients won Better Business awards?
  • And all of our clients changed 1000's of their client's lives

I was also able to continue my work with the likes of:

  • AFG, Mortgage Choice, Liberty Network Services, NMB
  • The Adviser??

And who doesn’t love a trophy? Yes, you know I do (it’s a conflicting emotion but yeah it was a big year so I'm allowing a little brag!)……

  • I was named Mentor of the Year at the 2022 VIC Better Business Awards
  • Thought Leader of the Year at the 2022 VIC Better Business Awards
  • Thought Leader of the Year at 2022 ABA awards
  • AMA Service Provider of the Year 2022

So what did I learn?

  • Change (the good, bad and ugly) is a constant and it's ok, so I have to stop resisting
  • Some of the long-held assumptions we had no longer held true. So hanging on tight won't let you thrive. Sometimes you have to let go to grow!
  • People will constantly?surprise you, just give them the chance
  • It's never as bad as it seems
  • To borrow one from the Marines, improvise, adapt and overcome

And, I just want to be better, so I have to do the work!

What about the Revolution?Program?

As you may remember 2 years ago during the height of Covid, I launched the Broker Essentials Revolution program. A new way for brokers to up-skill and take their business to a new level.

So how did year 2 go??

Well, we went from a pilot of 100 brokers to having over 1000 through the program over the last year which delights me no end. Every week we have delivered critical thinking that gets you addressing the real issues in your business today, but also gets you thinking of not just the brokerage you want to grow, but the real business you want to build.
