Broker Buddha

Broker Buddha

This week, Arleen and I are talking with Jason Keck, CEO of Broker Buddha, about making the jump from the technology sector to the insurance industry.

Jason graduated from Harvard with a degree in computer science. He spent much of his career in the technology space, starting with Accenture in London. While there, he discovered an appetite for entrepreneurship and startups. He found a (then) small company in London called Shazam, eventually serving as its Global Head of Business Development. Jason helped Shazam grow from a small technology startup to one of the biggest media companies of the last decade.

Jason missed the startup environment, however; and in 2017, he co-founded Broker Buddha. Broker Buddha offers an award-winning technology platform that simplifies the application and renewal process in commercial insurance. Their software provides a fast, easy online experience that enables brokers to reduce the time they spend on applications and renewals by 80%.

Today we discuss how rapidly developing technologies provide new opportunities for the insurance industry and how others coming into our industry from the tech sector can find their niche.

“A big focus on the brand is around how we made commercial insurance simple.” – Jason Keck

In this episode, Jason shares:

  • His personal journey to the insurance industry
  • His biggest challenges and how he overcame them
  • How Shazam and Tumblr compare to the insurance industry
  • The factors contributing to the growth of Broker Buddha
  • His insights into the industry’s application process
  • Broker Buddha’s integration with Zapier
  • Branding choices for Broker Buddha
  • The outlook for the future of Broker Buddha
  • His best advice for those new to the insurance industry

Key Takeaways:

  • Learn from your failures.
  • The insurance industry is built on relationships.
  • Good company names speak to the audience, what the product does, and are memorable.
  • Find a problem that is big enough to solve that you can build an entire business around.
