Broadway Award Season

It's Tony Season!??

The Broadway Award Season has started.?There are approximately eight different award shows from various organizations that will be honoring Broadway's Best. The Tony Awards take place in June, and 15 musicals and 23 plays were eligible for nomination.?

Very few people make it to Broadway, as it is about more than just talent.?Although I am not in that circle, I have a few personal friends that are.?So I must congratulate Jennifer Schriever for her lighting design nomination for Death of a Salesman.

Now, just over the river in New Jersey, there is a popular regional theatre called Paper Mill Playhouse.?Many favorite Broadway shows started here. Their competition is modeled off the Tony Awards for New Jersey High Schools. One hundred musicals are in the yearly competition, in which we have been involved for over 20 years. The competition is getting more challenging every year. The student performers are taking more private classes and pursuing their dreams of singing on the Great White Way.?The creatives, many seasoned professionals, and some even assistant on Broadway are becoming commonplace.?

I'm thrilled to say that my husband and I (#sharpedgelightingdesign) are excited to announce that we were 1 of 8 out of 100 lighting designers given a final nomination.??The award show will be two days after the Tonys.

What is even more exciting is that a former tech student from Westfield High School, NJ, where we designed for 20 years, received an honorable mention for outstanding lighting.?I asked, "Where and when did you learn about lighting?"?He said, "I have been watching you two for a long time."?WOW! I wasn't expecting that.?Congrats #JackFrankola. We are so proud of you.
