Broadcast Time
Ruthie Urman
Creative Writer: Versatile writer (blogs, articles, reviews and enchanting children's stories): engaging storytelling. I would love to tell your story! I write in the belief that human transformation is possible.
Who am I, if not a lover, a sweetheart, a llama mama, a daughter, a cousin, a friend and a seeker?
?Do these labels describe me and who I am?
?I consider myself a friend of freedom—in every way—the freedom to believe what I believe without condemnation or critical thought/expression. I am a lover—of life, nature, creatures and most of the time, people. I am also a lover of authentic expression, that for me, is writing.
I am playful to the nth degree. I believe that life is to be enjoyed, and I want to have fun and be glad I’m alive each day.
I am passionate! What are we here for if we are not here to stand out in our beliefs and “broadcast” them to the universe?
I am an everlasting reader of memoirs.
Chatting with a coach, he suggested that my focus be memoirs. I came up with the term memoir doula. I want to be the doula who sustains, encourages, welcomes, and supports the birth of those writing their memoirs or those who feel stuck in writing their memoir.
I loved and love that idea!
I have written three memoirs and will publish one of them this year. In mid-September, there will be an author launch; I am one of the authors.
It was written about 25 years ago. It takes place on Hawaii’s Big Island, where I was a snowbird for the winter, from January through the first few days in May. My daughter’s birthday is May 9, so I wanted to be back on the mainland several days before to celebrate her birthday.
My (now ex-husband) was living on the Big Island, as we were estranged. Being with him for four months out of the year was perfect for me. It enabled me to experience life on an island where Pele, the volcano Goddess, was known to create drama. ?And create drama she did.
Although we lived in a paradise where the palm trees swayed to the music of the breezes and birds in every bright color flocked and sang, creatures invaded our home regularly, causing high anxiety—bulging neck veins and skin issues. (My then-hubby had the bulging veins while I endured the skin issues.)
The book centers on three relationships: my husband, mother and daughter.
Because the island puts your issues smack dab in your face, my perspective on life shifted dramatically when I returned to the mainland.
?
I love reading and learning about others’ epiphanies, adventures and conscious shifts in their memoirs.
Writing material that is real, raw, and authentic builds trust in the reader, allowing them to open up and perhaps examine their own lives and beliefs. My relating gives permission, in a way, for others to follow. I believe this kind of role modeling creates guidance and support for those who want to write their memoir yet feel hesitant or carry “imposter syndrome.”
The end goals are personal success, satisfaction, and growth; the journey and what leads us there are our own.
Feel free to contact me if you are ready and willing to begin that journey.
