Broadband Advertising Change

Broadband Advertising Change

For those of you that may not know, the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) has announced some major changes to the way Broadband speeds are advertised.

What is the change?

The guidance requires Broadband speeds to be advertised at the median peak speed available for at least 50% of the customer base within peak hours. This should be based on actual throughput between 8pm and 10pm and applies to residential services. This guidance may be applied more widely where circumstances of an advert for a different type of service (e.g. Business Broadband) are sufficiently similar.

Which products are affected?

This applies to ADSL, ADSL2+, FTTC, FTTC G.Fast and FTTP.

When will this change happen?

These changes are required to be implemented by 23rd May.

The above points are guidance based on our interpretation and shouldn’t underpin your implementation. We recommend you review the ASA Guidance document wand seek your own independent legal advice.
