Brittney Griner and The American PR Machine
I'm thrilled to see anyone escape a Russian or Chinese remote penal colony - but the bigger question is, why do we still have them in 2023??
When will we tire of all these dog and pony shows? Granted, Biden has just guaranteed himself and his party the black & LGBT vote for quite some. But in the meantime there are millions of other Americans who need help. They don't have millions of dollars in their bank account or thousands of people routing for them. They are on their own.
Why do we still have all these ego clashes at every level of society? Between individuals, groups, and countries? Why don't we see yet how we're all losing out in our current state?
We've all been glued to the Brittney Griner story for months. It's hard to watch an American have their freedom taken from them. And it's hard to imagine anyone heading to a sweatshop in this day and age, especially a celebrity athlete like her. Or a marine for that matter.

But we need to see the bigger picture. That all this division and grouping people by their beliefs, race or lifestyle is literally killing us. The U.S. is an extremely and increasingly divided country. There are too many factions, divisions, and interests within the population that clash in education, culture, temperament, religion, with tendencies to live opposed to each other. The longer this goes on the less people understand, empathize with, care about, or even tolerate each other.?
Instead of going to the heart of the matter - fixing the division in society, which is extremely challenging to pull off - we'd rather focus all our attention on this new form of "entertainment", where we watch how celebrities deal with enormous obstacles.
So no matter what is going on in the world, and no matter how many problems the US is dealing with - the American PR machine goes into high gear to take full advantage of situations like this. Because it's an opportunity to promote itself. That's the whole point of PR after all.

1 年Josia Nakash I truly believe that we all have choices in our lives. Now what I am going to say may get people upset and wonder why. Hear me out, if we go to another country shouldn't we abide by those country's laws? Brittany Griner admitted that she broke the law in Russia. Granted the punishment I believe didn't fit the crime. But I don't make laws for other countries. But consider this, there is a US Marine in a Russian prison for a crime that he didn't commit. But he sits in a Russian prison now going on 4 years now and Brittany Griner gets out after the US 2022 mid-term election. You have to ask yourself why? And on top that, we sent back to Russia a weapons dealer that has been known as The Merchant of Death. I glad to see her home, but what about our US Marine? To me it smells and like identity politics.
