British and United States Government

I am gravely worried by the current situation in political circles and the governments of both Britain and the USA. One would expect that those involved in either of those pursuits would at least be literate yet they don’t seem to understand the word LOSE or LOST. Below is the definition of those words with examples.

Based loosely on the Cambridge Dictionary definition

LOSE (BE DEFEATED)

Fail to succeed

The other team or party won – your team or party lost.

You lost the vote

You lost in the referendum

To not maintain or no longer have control

DEFEAT

To win against someone in a fight, war, or election.

To cause someone or something to fail – they lost.

A simple question - If your side loses in a game of football (whichever style) you must keep playing until your side wins?

This may seem stupid but the way our respective governments are behaving you would be right in thinking that their understanding of English was seriously wanting.
